It's my birthday!
Submitted by Dave on Sun, 2008-07-20 11:44.Well, as some of you know, it as my 34th birthday this past Saturday, July 19th. As fast would have it, my wife likes Hooter's chicken sandwiches, and there is in fact a Hooter's in Seoul, South Korea. Like the destined meeting of chocolate and peanut butter, so too did the Shea's meet the Hooter's girls. And lo, they did make me stand upon yonder booth, and flap my arms like a chicken. This speaks volumes about the maturity level of 34 years of age, people. Enjoy the video!

MEGADETH!!!
Submitted by Dave on Tue, 2007-10-30 10:29.Ladies and Gentlemen, I, Dave Shea, had the supremely fantastic, head-bangin', hard-rockin' chance three nights ago to attend, in my mind, one of the greatest bands in the world: Megadeth! Yes, these hard-rockin' speed-metal maniacs were on tour celebrating their 12th studio album, and as their tour of the pacific rim found them visiting Seoul, South Korea once again, I was in attendance for the first time in my life; and it was FANTASTIC! :-) I have been of fan of them for ages, and I finally had the chance to see Mr. Dave Mustaine and company tear it up for two solid hours of thrashin' good metal/rock! Dave took the name for the band 25 years ago, playing off a phrase coined by the U.S. military, "megadeath", which means "one million deaths". Contrary to the name, however, Mr. Mustaine is quiet anti-war, and it shows in his many insightful and questioning lyrics. Attached to this blog, you can find a quick snippet of the band crankin' through one of their best songs and biggest hits, 1990's "Hangar 18" - sweet!

He's MISTER Ennio Morricone to you!
Submitted by Dave on Sun, 2007-10-07 11:29.Once Upon a Time in the West; Once Upon a Time in America; The Legend of 1900; The Mission; The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly - these are but a FEW of the movies that have been gloriously scored by the beautiful Italian writer/composer, Mr. Ennio Morricone, who's been working scoring cinema since the 1960's. Last year, he received an Oscar (and standing ovation) for Lifetime Achievement for this musical contributions to that venerable artform, and this year, 2007, to celebrate our one year of wedded bliss, JJ and I went to see the maestro perform here in this jewel of a city, Seoul. Not only was Mr. Morricone backed by his own personal orchestra, but they were all joined onstage by a professional choir of Seoul! It was an amazing night and experience - JJ was weeping by the third song. Indeed, it was powerful, fun, light, dark, and haunting music, and to wit, he received four standing ovations. Wow! If you don't know his music, you owe it to yourself to check him out. Ciao!
When everything just seems to be hair...
Submitted by Dave on Sun, 2007-10-07 11:24.I just can't stress enough how much fun it is to read and discover strange, bewildering, obtuse English signs all around Korea. Take this photo, for example - is everything REALLY hair? Really? :-) For many more hilarious verbiage, head over to the "Photo Galleries" section, and check out "Funny Signs of Seoul". You'll be glad you did.
